The Senior footballers of Owen Roe’s
completed the perfect away record yesterday as they picked up a pair of ACL
points with a hard fought victory over Errigal Ciaran IIIs yesterday in their
last away league game of the season. The Roe’s had a 5 point lead at the
interval and managed to fight off an Errigal comeback with a purple patch in
and around the three quarter mark.
The League leaders took an
early lead with a Conor O’Neill free before Errigal levelled up on ten minutes. A long
range Conall McCormick effort nosed Owen Roe’s ahead with two in two minutes
from captain Brendan Boggs stretching the lead.
The Dunmoyle men pulled one back from a
dead ball but a fine Stephen Harper effort chalked that out with midfielder
Tony Devine from distance adding another. However the away side were not
getting it all their own way and Andy Devine had to stand tall at his near post
to block a goal bound Errigal shot on 20 minutes with a score being fashioned
from the resulting 45 with a well taken free making the lead two.
O’Neill added another free with Harper in range from the angle
late on. In the final action of the half Ronan Mc Nulty turned his marker and
sent his first time effort just over the bar.
Errigal have caused most teams problems this season and Saturday’s
game was no different with two early pointed efforts putting Owen Roe’s on the
back foot. However the north Tyrone side knuckled down once more and scores
from O’Neill and Seamus Dooher gave them a foothold again. In addition Michael
Dooher did well to gobble up a breaking ball in the square with his first time
effort going over for a white flag.
An Errigal free kept their scoreboard moving but Ryan Mc Aleer,
Tony Devine and O’Neill in the 49th minute helped the Leckpatrick lads pull
clear.
Errigal clipped another one over shortly after through Michael
Harte, with Andy Devine making a first class save to tip over another Harte
pile driver minutes later. The home side did get another free kick but a superb
turnover and point by Harper cancelled that out.
Late on Seamus Dooher and a Ronan Mc Nulty fisted effort either
side of an Errigal free ended the scoring and copper fastened another welcome
pair of ACL points for the north Tyrone side.
