The reserve footballers of Owen Roes have had a perfect start to the 2017 campaign to date and went to Plumbridge on Sunday where they continued their unblemished start to 2017.
The away side were in control from the off and early scores by Mark O Neill, Mark Kelly and Ryan Devine set the tone for the afternoon. Marty O Neill, Kelly (0-2) and Devine added to the Roes lead. The away side had a few goal chances too but credit to the Glenelly backline and keeper as they made several game blocks to deny Owen Roes.
The returning Fergal McNulty got on the score sheet, and the away team maintained the pressure with further scores from Mark Kelly (0-2), Cathal Kelly and Mark O’Neill.
The second half started with the home side making early inroads to Owen Roes’ lead with a couple of scores in the first two attacks. However the Roes back line marshaled well by Barry McDaid, Ruairi Kelly, Paul Devine and Stephen Dooher regrouped to get back in control.
At the other end, the Owen Roes forwards continued to rotate the scoreboard. Sub Conn Tinney, Paul Devine and two on the bounce from Mark Kelly kept them on top, with Kelly also finishing a well worked team goal on 40 minutes.
Liam McCay came off the bench to continue his good early season form lacing home within 60 seconds of his introduction, and then repeating the dose the other side of a Stephen Harper score.
Glenelly did break for a consolation point, but it was all Owen Roes and scores from McCay, Ryan McShane (45), Conor Devine, Harper and a late Ryan Devine goal closed out the scoring for the away team.
