Owen Roe’s Reserve footballers are safely into the last eight of the 2017 Reserve Knockout following Saturday evening’s impressive showing in Plumbridge.
The Leckpatrick lads built up a decent first half cushion and supplemented that with 3 second half majors to see off the Glenelly challenge.
Stephen Harper stroked over early on, before the away side got their first goal courtesy of diminutive forward Ryan Porter. Ruairi Boylan and wing back Paul Devine added to the lead before Conor Donaghey did the spade work for Gerard Mc Shane to pop over.
Mc Shane added a second score from distance with Marty O’Neill finding range from the angle. Late in the half Owen Roe’s saw their compliment reduced by one, with the home side getting on the scoreboard with a late free.
Half Time: Glenelly 0-1 Owen Roe’s 1-06
The hosts came out in the second half keen to eke their way back into the contest and with the first two scores it looked like that would be the case. However a red card for Glenelly, and the restoration of numerical parity saw their odds lengthen.
Shortly after Ryan Porter bagged his second goal to end the tie following good work by Mark Kelly.
Glenelly knocked off the games next two scores but it was all Owen Roe’s in the closing quarter. Stephen Harper drilled home his side’s third goal before good work by Davy Harte allowed Mark Kelly to score.
Kelly it was who grabbed the game’s 4th goal after a good team move, with the forward tapping over a free shortly after.
Owen Roe’s sub Art Anderson boomed over from distance and when Glenelly did score, further efforts from Kelly (0-2) and Harper saw out the scoring.
