After the heartbreak of losing out in the U-16 Championship Final, Owen Roe’s Ladies travelled to Urney last Sunday with hopes of making amends in the League Final and this they did!

The Leckpatrick side got off to a dream start with an early goal from the throw-in from Caoimhe Barr. Kirstie Mc Fadden pointed and then a god run through the Badoney defence by Mc Fadden who found Cara Mc Aleer who netted a second goal for the Roe’s. Badoney pointed at the other end but a point from Karen Hegarty quickly cancelled it out. Badoney went for goal but a fine save from Meaghan Mc Gettigan deflected the ball over the bar. Badoney now found their form and pointed another 2. Cara Mc Aleer had hard luck when her shot on goal just went wide of the post. Mc Fadden pointed again and Mc Aleer hit a second in quick succession. The Roe’s kept up the momentum and further points from Hegarty and Ciara Gormley kept them in a commanding lead. This lead could have been stretched only for Vikki Mc Garvey in the Badoney nets making 2 good saves to deny Mc Fadden.

Half-time: Owen Roe’s 2-06 Badoney 0-04.

Badoney started the second half in a more determined fashion. A quick point and a well taken goal brought them back into contention but Mc Aleer had other ideas and netted again. Indeed she could have had a third a few minutes later only for the crossbar to get in the way but Mc Fadden was the more alert and poked the rebound into the net. The Owen Roe’s defence were standing strong at the back and repelled several Badoney attacks to keep the north Tyrone side in charge. Hegarty pointed again but Mc Fadden wasn’t done and netted again from a great assist from Ciara Gormley. Mc Aleer hadn’t seen the end of her day neither picking off another point and then her third goal of the day to all but end the game as a contest. A point apiece for Mc Fadden and Hegarty sealed a well-earned victory and consolation for last week’s loss.
