Owen Roe’s welcomed Strabane to Leckpatrick for the second time this year. Previously both Club’s Senior teams played out a draw in the Ulster Intermediate League in the winter but this time around it was for the Tyrone Intermediate League, in a keenly anticipated clash.
First up it the Reserves and a tightly fought first half saw both sides go in with only a one point advantage giving the home side the narrowest advantage.
Oisin Dooher opened the scoring but Strabane levelled from a free. Ryan Devine Mór picked off a second but Strabane replied again. Niall Mc Aleer and Stephen Harper stretched the lead temporarily when the visitors scored their third. The Leckpatrick side’s momentum however was to be upset moments later with the loss of Davy Harte to injury and Strabane started to find their rhythm. The visitors edged in on the Roe’s net only for Sean Devine to save on the line. The rebound fell nicely for Strabane but their second attempt came off the crossbar and was cleared by Ryan Devine, who too had had to retire after picking an injury for his effort. Strabane levelled form the resulting 45 and had another go at goal moments, pushing Devine to make another good save later but Mark Kelly was to put the Roe’s in front from a well taken free at the other end. Kelly again was in the thick of it when he found Ronan Parker in space to make it a 2 point game. Strabane’s pressure on the Roe’s goal however finally paid off with a 3 pointer. Kelly tried to make amends for the Leckpatrick men but the Strabane keeper denied him well. Parker added on another 2 and Kelly again from a free sent Owen Ro’s in at half-time 0-09 to 1-05.
The second half however was to be a more one-sided affair. Ryan Devine got the first of the half but Strabane responded well, striking for 2 goals in the 12th and 13th minutes which all but effectively killed off the game for the hosts. Devine’s point was all the home side could muster whilst Strabane added on another 3 points to see the game out.
