Owen Roes U21 side collected a good win in Castlederg tonight on a 1-12 to 1-7 scoreline, that takes them through to the last eight of the competition. Indeed the O'Neills five point margin means that they top the group, and secure 'home' advantage in the quarter finals. Conor Friel was the O'Neills goal getter in the first half.
The game started well for the Roes as they took control early on,and Paul Devine slotted over some well taken frees. Points from Harper and Lynch on either side of the frees. A great run from Davy Harte saw Conor Friel convert to leave 4 points the gap before Castlederg pulled the ball into their control and slotted low to beat keeper Crawford.
Roes sought well though to claw back the lead and again Devine was on target before himself and Lynch got on the end of some loose ball to allow Friel to get a nice 3-pointer.
Half time: 1-01 v 1-07
It was the Derg who came out ready for battle though, and made it tough for the defense as they slotted over 4 points all from frees. But McCauley and Devine got the defenders together and allowed for another Harte bust through to start the Roes scoring in the second half. A few changes allowed Clarke to add to the tally. In fact the midfield were in their element and coming out with the ball all the time. The Derg pulled another score back before top scorer of the night Devine stepped up to the freetaking spot again and added two before the closing whistle.
FINAL SCORE: 1.07 v 1.12
Owen Roes now will have a home tie with either Aghyaran, Castlederg, Beragh or the winners of Tattyreagh and Brockagh.
